These rugs and carpets are made by Turkoman & Afghan weavers who had been living for up to 20 years in the north-west frontier region of Pakistan. Many have recently returned to Afghanistan and continue to weave there, although most of the trading is still done in Peshawar, Pakistan where we travel to choose our stock
Afghan wool is used for pile, warp & weft, vegetable-dyed in vibrant, jewel-like colours. The distinctive traditional patterns are Caucasian in origin and the pile is cut short to emphasise the bold geometric designs.
