Based on 19th Century designs originally made by the Ziegler Co. in Iran, these rugs are a relatively new production, hand-made by Afghan & Turkoman weavers who had settled in northern Pakistan. Recently these weavers have returned to Afghanistan and production is now contuining there.
Hand-spun Afghan wool, renowned for its hard-wearing properties, is knotted onto cotton warp and weft.
The use of vegetable dyes produces a mellow ‘antique' appearance in a palette of soft, subtle colours. |
