Carpet weaving was brought to India by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century and some of the finest carpets in the world were created during the Mughal reign.
Today, Indian rugs and carpets are still inspired by the classical Persian motifs, each one an individual work of art, infused with the magic of rich colour and design. Predominantly wool woven onto cotton warp and weft, there are also some fine silk pieces from Kashmir.
