The rugs woven in villages and towns in many areas of Pakistan are known as ‘Pakistan Bokhara'. Made either with local wool or imported wool from Australia and New Zealand, the designs are Turkoman in origin, named after the old trading town of Bokhara on the Silk Route.
The most popular design is the Tekke Gul and a 5' x 3' rug will take a weaver about 3 months to knot, before they are taken from the loom for washing, trimming and finishing. |
