Hand-knotted by the women of the nomadic Qashqai tribes of southern Iran, on horizontal looms, using hand-spun wool from their own herds of sheep. Dyes are made from indigenous plants, roots, berries, tree-bark & nut-shells.
The traditional designs are woven from memory and passed down through many generations, each weaver adding her own individual details, often including animals, birds & flowers.
