At Jennings, we want to ensure that our customers get the maximum life and enjoyment from their rugs. Therefore, we have selected two types of underlay to offer online and in-store.

We are pleased to recommend Foxi®*. Foxi antislip is excellent when used with either carpet or hard flooring. Foxi is the leading brand of anti-slip underlay, which we have successfully supplied to our customers for almost 25 years, as it is specifically for handmade rugs. In our experience, the other anti-slip products we have tried do not offer the same performance in terms of either anti-slip or longevity. This is not satisfactory in resolving uneven flooring issues.

For homes with uneven traditional floorboards or stone floors with obvious grouting or unevenness, we recommend a blended Felt** mix. This will prevent the rug from becoming prematurely worn and has the added benefit of feeling softer and more luxurious. The weight of the underlay chosen provides a good balance between performance and depth. This is not an anti-slip product.

* Foxi® antislip underlay is available in three widths. You may need to select several widths for your rug and trim them to size. It is easy to cut and should be undersized by a couple of inches.

**This product is available in rolls just under 4’6 feet wide and 137cm long, so the felt may need to be cut into several pieces on larger carpets. It is easy to cut and should be undersized by a couple of inches from each edge.

Please be aware that underlays will not solve problems relating to poorly fitted flooring and should only be used where owners are happy that an additional trip hazard has not been created.

Colours can bleed into existing floor coverings, particularly where they have come into contact with moisture. Both underlays are valuable when placing handmade vegetable-dyed rugs on lightly coloured floors. They form a barrier that helps prevent dye transfer.
