Living room and sitting room rugs need to be durable as well as timeless. We recommend a wool pile rug with a cotton foundation for a living room rug to strengthen it for heavy footfall areas. Wool rugs are also versatile and easy to clean. These rugs are a great option if multiple family members and pets will be using the rug. Wool rug qualities can vary with finer weaves offering greater design details and substantially better wearing properties. We recommend a bold pattern or stylish border rug to complement colours and shapes from the sitting room. Silk rugs are also a fantastic choice; you can enhance your space with beautiful silks with complex and intricate designs. We recommend reading our care guide when comparing different rug materials.
Dining room rugs depend on the style of the decor. A solid wooden dining room table can often take up a large part of the attention. Therefore, the beautiful medallion rugs with central motifs are often lost under people’s feet. Medallion rugs, however, are a perfect choice if you have a glass dining table so everyone can enjoy the beautiful patterns and colours! For large and statement dining spaces, a beautiful bordered carpet is a lovely feature to frame the table and pull in colours from the room.
Rectangular rugs are a good option for long dining room tables to contrast the seating. We recommend alternating the shape if you have a square or round dining table. Such as a square rug for a round table to accent the space. Often, shapes can fixate our thoughts, so it is always worth getting ideas from others with expertise in this area. This is one of the main reasons our shop visitors are encouraged to use our lending service. When considering a rug or carpet for the dining room, we strongly advise that the size allows for the chairs to be set back to the width required when people are seated. Often, customers only consider the table size; if the chairs are half on/off, the result can cause serious damage to the edges of the rug, which can be expensive to repair.
Bedrooms are one of the most used rooms in the house, so of course, they need the attention and beauty of an oriental rug. For heavy-use rooms, a wool pile rug is a great choice; however, for bedrooms, you may be less practical and indulge yourself with your options, like silk or very fine wool and silk mixes. Similarly, an inexpensive loomed rug would be fine if your budget doesn’t extend to such indulgences. The bedroom can be a great place to use paler carpets, which might be unsuited to high-traffic areas like hallways. We recommend using a rug at the end or side of your bed to accent the room. A large rug can be hidden underneath a bed, and it would be a shame not to admire it. Or worse still, create a snack for moths seeking out dark, undisturbed spaces. Read our blog on preventing moth damage in your home.
Small spaces in your home are as important to furnish as big family areas. This area is often the very first impression of your home; it’s not simply a means of access to your home. It is a welcoming space; let your personality shine here. For example, enhance your hallway, doorway or landing with beautifully crafted hand-knotted runners and entryway mats. Hallway runners often tell a story, such as through a pattern or motif. Bordered runners are also a nice way to define an area and add a pop of interest. The entrance hallway is an opportunity to place rugs that are eye-catching and interesting, and they can be traditional or modern. Either way, they should represent you! We recommend a wool pile runner or rug for hallways as they typically have a lot of traffic.
