Kilims are a terrific type of rug usually made from interwoven wool rather than knotted. Their surface is 'flat' instead of having a 'pile'. Although these rugs are often made in Afghanistan, Iran, India, and the Caucasus, their origins are Turkish or Anatolian. Vegetable-dyed wool is the normal fibre used when making kilims, which are woven using woollen warps and wefts. In recent years, some weavers have been replacing wool with cotton, which tends to give the rug a stronger and more secure foundation.

Our Kilims are from Afghanistan, India, and Turkey (Anatolian). We stock a wide selection of flatweave Kilims that are all hand-woven. These versatile rugs are incredibly popular and are commonly used as floor or wall hangings. Like our oriental rugs and carpets, all our Kilims are handcrafted using traditional methods and individually selected based on quality, colour, and decoration.

With all Kilims, we highly recommend Foxi-Antislip for use on the floor or carpet underneath the rug. Being a lighter weight means that most of the time, the kilim will move or drift without anti-slip underfoot. We sell Foxi in multiple sizes and will cut to size when needed.
